Latest CROSS Library Install Link

Postby admin on Wed Jun 18, 2008 4:02 pm

Please note that our installation instructions have changed.

SEE OUR NEW DOWNLOAD PAGE

CROSS Software has some basic requirements:
1. It must be installed onto a 32-bit Windows environment. (64-bit Windows editions require XP Mode or another virtual machine with Windows 7 32-bit or XP Pro installed inside)
2. It requires all the latest service packs for your version of Windows, followed by all of the Windows Updates (keep checking for updates until there are no more remaining when you check again).
3. The above require internet access (as does our installer).

If the above requirements are met, we recommend that you remove any and all existing Java versions found in your Control Panel Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features) and then just install CROSS Library using the link below, and if you hit any problems, give CROSS support a call.)

Everything is included in our 'Single-Click installer': Click here, then Run the 'Single_Click_Install_CL_wJava.exe' file to install CROSS Library 1.7 using our Single-Click installer (recommended). With this link, you do not need to install Java or worry about Java updates affecting CROSS Library on your system.

NOTE: The install link above is exactly the same as in STEP 3 below.

SLOW DOWNLOADS?:
--IF YOUR DOWNLOAD SPEED IS REALLY SLOW, YOU MAY USE OUR SMALLER INSTALLER which USES YOUR EXISTING JAVA 6 edition (required). Check your 'Programs and Features' ('Add or Remove Programs' in XP) to ensure Java 6 or later is installed before using this link. If No java is on your system, the following installer will not function properly. Also the installer will not may not function properly if an earlier version than Java 6 is installed on your system.): Click here, then Run the 'Single_Click_Install_CL_noJava.exe' file to install CROSS Library 1.7 using the Java installed on your system.

--With this link, you need to install Java and update it when prompted. NOTE FOR THE ABOVE LINK ONLY: You may install the latest Java using http://www.java.com, then install CROSS Library using the link above.

--At times, these Java updates will affect CROSS Library on your system if you last installed using this link.

>>> IMPORTANT NOTE: CROSS software CURRENTLY REQUIRES a 32-bit Windows environment! A 64-bit processor with a 32-bit version of Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, or Windows 7 is fine. We currently recommend that you request a Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit) system when purchasing a computer. 64-bit Windows is preinstalled on most computers. Some editions of Vista and Windows 7 include XP Mode which works fine with our software. We are continue to work on 64-bit support that will be available in a release of CROSS Library at some point. That batch of updates should complete the 64-bit transition with our software. UNTIL THEN, if you already have a 64-bit version of Windows, we recommend that you use the XP Mode feature to install CROSS Library. If you are not sure your Windows is compatible or for more information, see our compatibility page: Click here to see what versions of Windows can run CROSS Library 1.7.<<<

IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS XP:
If you are installing onto Windows XP, you must have Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 installed. Service Pack 1 will not allow our installer to work correctly. Note: After installing any service pack, you must go back into Windows Update to download the latest Security, Recommended, and Critical updates. You may need to check for Windows Update two or three times in order to be sure that you have all of the updates installed.

STEP 1: WINDOWS UPDATES, EVERYONE:
We recommend that ALL customers check that you have the latest Windows Updates installed before using the links below. If you have any problems installing you should check that you have all of the latest updates installed for this version of Windows--especially any Service Packs. See the 'Windows Update' shortcut in the Programs menu for more information.

We highly recommend doing ALL your Windows Updates first--including all service packs. (Note: After Windows Updates restarts your computer, you must check again for any more available Windows Updates. There are often more available--especially after Service Packs are installed.

STEP 2: FIREWALL CHECK:
NOTE: If you have any firewall software installed OTHER THAN the Windows Firewall, you should usually disable those and re-enable the Windows Firewall using the Windows Firewall icon in Control Panel. (Having another firewall enabled will cause our installer to fail as our installer cannot configure all of the various firewalls correctly. Our installer is designed to correctly register itself into the Windows Firewall.) Some firewall software will play nice with applications and will allow you to 'Always Allow' or 'Remember the setting' when you click 'Allow', etc. These options should be sufficient to allow our software to operate normally. (In summary: Your Windows Firewall should be enabled during installation. Other firewalls should be turned off.)

STEP 3: YOU MAY INSTALL WITH OUR "Single Click Installer": (Recommended Installer)
Click here, then Run the 'Single_Click_Install_CL_wJava.exe' file to install CROSS Library 1.7 using our 'Single-Click installer' (recommended).

STEP 4: (First time users only) CREATE A NEW DATABASE
Note: If you are a first-time user, you must use 'File/New (Library Database)' option on the Library 1.7 menu bar to create your first database.
You may enter the name of your library when prompted. This name displays on reports, book labels, as well as on the main screen of the software.
Please keep the default file name shown on your screen. There is no need to change that field. When you click OK, the new database is created, and you may enter your first record--even if it is a test record.

STEP 5: CONFIGURE THE DEFAULT DATABASE (Currently required to prevent situations where the hourglass hangs the software):
How to set your default database.required for best results.

STEP 6: (Optional) CONFIGURE LIBRARY 1.7 TO NOT AUTO-LAUNCH AT STARTUP, IF YOU WOULD PREFER TO OPEN IT WHEN NEEDED.
How to disable auto launching at startup.purely optional.

YOU HAVE COMPLETED ALL OF THE RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION STEPS!

OTHER USER ACCOUNTS: If you wish to configure other Windows user accounts to use Library 1.7, you may do so with the CROSSLibrary Helper icon in your system tray. Right-click that icon, then select Admin/Advanced/Grant required access for Limited Windows Accounts to Library 1.7 files and folders.' A prompt will appear after a few seconds allowing you to enter the user name of the account as it appears at the Windows Logon screen. If you receive an error when you click OK, you may have entered the name incorrectly. Just repeat this procedure again with the correct name to fix the problem. You may use this procedure for any other users that need access to CROSS Library 1.7. The startup entries, program folders, etc. are all automatically configured for these user accounts when you follow this procecedure.

EVERYTHING BELOW THIS POINT IS INFORMATIONAL AND/OR FOR THE USE OF CROSS SUPPORT PERSONEL.

============================================

CROSS Software has some basic requirements:
1. It must be installed onto a 32-bit version of Windows.
2. It requires all the latest service packs for your version of Windows, followed by all of the Windows Updates (keep checking for updates until there are no more remaining when you check again).
3. The above require internet access (as does our installer).

>> Due to the above, the only installation method that CROSS Systems, Inc. currently recommends is to download and install directly onto your computer while connected to the internet. <<
--This may require you to relocate the computer to an internet connection during the install process. If internet access is NOT POSSIBLE, you will need to call us for specific solutions. NOTE: While they can be done, it's not generally easy or simple. By far, the easiest method is to download using this page.
--Both Windows and Java must be updated before installing. (These both require internet access.)
There are so many critical and important Windows and Java updates that affect the stability of software, that we find it necessary to require Windows Updates to be checked, and Java to be updated each time you wish to install or update CROSS Library.

IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS XP:

You may then call us to re-configure CROSS Library to be used in Multi-User Mode.

Latest Windows Service Pack Links: (We normally recommend that you get Service Packs from Windows Update, but we are providing them here for your convenience especially for situations where Windows Update is not working properly on your system and you need a Service Pack. These are VERY LARGE downloads. Use only as recommended by CROSS support.) REMEMBER, YOU MUST ALWAYS check for more upates AFTER installing a Service Pack by using Windows Update!! This is important to get the latest security updates released by Microsoft after that specific Service Pack. CROSS cannot be held responsible for use or misuse of these links as they are simply distributions of Microsoft system code for the purpose of patching your Windows systems.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Requires either SP1a or SP2 to be currently installed.)

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (No previous Service Packs required. We still recommend that you check for any other Windows Updates first before installing this. If any previous Service Packs are offered in Windows Updates, come back here and install this instead.)
